He might be 84 years old but still the evergreen Dev Anand has always remained the youngest man in the town. Over this week-end (November 15 and 16, 2007), his fans in Dubai were pleasantly surprised to find this out for themselves. The stylish superstar from the golden era of 50s and 60s was in Dubai for a whirlwind promotional tour for his autobiography aptly titled as ‘Romancing with life’. On Thursday, he attended a nostalgic musical program arranged by the club- ‘Sureeli Yaaden’ and on Friday, he was given a special felicitation at Dubai’s India Club, where Pan Emirates Home Furnishing, UAE Exchange and Dr. Minal Medical Centre also participated as support sponsors.
The best part of the tour was his uniquely interactive public interview by Cinemasangeet.Com-editor Dr. Mandar V. Bichu. Conceived under the concept of ‘One On One Flashback’, this live interview, aided by audiovisuals featured Dev Anand at his charming and witty best. Displaying razor-sharp memory and a great sense of humor, he recounted many memorable incidents from his 62 year-long career in Bollywood. In impeccable English, Dev-saab (as he is fondly called!) told the privileged audience all about his struggling days, his best roles, his relationship with his brothers Chetan and Vijay, his impressions about other contemporary stars and yes, even about his famous affair with Suraiya! It was pure goose-pimple stuff.
