The "Bermuda Triangle” is an imaginary area located off the southeastern Atlantic coast of the United States, which is noted for a high incidence of unexplained losses of ships, small boats and aircraft. The apices of the triangle are generally accepted to be Bermuda, Miami and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Over the years, no conclusive scientific explanation has been found and that has given an aura of mystery and suspense to this so-called “Devil's Triangle".
‘The Triangle’ is a lavishly made Sci-Fi mini-TV-series trying to provide answers to these age-old unanswered questions. The plot goes like this: A billionaire shipping magnate Eric Benerall (Sam Neil) calls upon a hand-picked team of experts from diverse fields and throws at them a lucrative challenge- they have to crack the secret of Bermuda Triangle, which has claimed many of his ships through unexplained disappearances. These experts- a tabloid reporter Howard (Eric Stoltz), a marine engineer Emily (Catherine Bell), a meteorologist Bruce (Michael Rodgers) and a psychic Stan (Bruce Davison)- then are sent on a marine expedition in order to understand, analyze and explain this strange phenomenon.
During their journey, the experts start experiencing bizarre events. Discarding the simplistic theory of changed electromagnetic field in the region leading to compass-and-navigation errors, they finally settle upon the complex theory of loss of time-space continuum! In simple-speak, the lost ships and planes were not actually lost but they still existed in a different time-frame!
The A-grade cast ensures that the performances are top-notch and with more than 800 digital special effects, this series also keeps the screen action alive. But after an absorbing beginning, the plot starts to be quite convoluted and increasingly unfathomable to lose its grip. The Triangle is a good video-watch but an unconvincing explanation of the sea-world’s greatest mystery!<
