Pritam
New York is not a typical Yashraj candy-floss musical but even within its terrorism-related story-line, music- director Pritam has managed to compose some really nice numbers that linger in mind long after the soundtrack is over.
The album begins with a bang as KK delivers a rousing racy rock-styled song Hai Junoon. Spruced up by an upbeat rhythm and catchy guitar riffs, this peppy song is full of youth, hope and camaraderie and is a perfect chart-buster. Mohit Chauhan's edgy vocals then take us on a totally different path with Tu Ne Jo Na Kaha. It is a moody melancholic number brooding on heartbreak borne out of false hopes. The best song of this soundtrack comes from Sunidhi Chaauhan. Moving away from her 'item-singer' image, she renders a superb romantic number - Mere Sang Tu Chal Zaraa that blends emotion and energy in equal measure. Pritam's sound designing skills are well apparent in all these numbers.
The rest of the album is filled with a situational qawwaali- Aa Aa Jaa Aye Saaye Mere (Pankaj Awasthi), some musical themes and remixes of Hai Junoon and Mere Sang Tu Chal Zara.
