A.R. Rahman

 

Rahman does it again! The man currently seems to be at the peak of his musical powers as he composes yet another memorable soundtrack showing his full range as a composer, arranger and programmer.

 

Mohit Chauhan’s fast, fun number Masakkali, with its wacky lyrics turns out to be a crowd-pleasing chartbuster. Later the racy dance-track Hey Kaala Bandar and the techno- hip-hop- fusion title-song Delhi 6 also add to the fun and games. Rahman’s Rehna Tu and Ash King’s Dil Gira Kahin Par are moody, romantic ballads.

 

After showing the trendy side of his music, Rahman comes up with some traditional Indian tunes like Rekha Bhardwaj’s folksy fun-song Genda Phool and her devotional Aarti; Javed Ali- Kailash Kher’s Sufi Qawwali Arziyan and a superb remix of late Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan’s classical number Bhor Bhayee (where Shreya Ghoshal accompanies him!). Amitabh Bachchan’s baritone recitation of Noor- a romantic poem then concludes the proceedings.

 

Truly an album which offers something for everyone!
