War
Year: 2019
Director: Siddharth Anand
Cast: Hrithik Roshan, Tiger Shroff, Vaani Kapoor, Ashutosh Rana
After watching the Netflix-series Family Man and The Spy, and the Amazon Prime-series Bard of Blood back to back, watching War almost makes you feel that the whole world is involved in the cloak-and-dagger games of espionage, terrorism and counter-terrorism. Still this Siddharth Anand-directed Yashraj spy thriller makes for an engaging entertainer.
By nature, War is not a gritty, realistic, taut spy drama like Raazi; more a glamorous stunt-a-minute Bollywoodized Mission Impossible reincarnation with good-looking tough guys taking on the big bad terrorists, while having some spare time to shake a leg and sing a song!
The glam quotient is high with handsome hulks Hrithik and Tiger playing the top Indian special agents, who end up becoming unlikely adversaries. They both nail their characters and make a fab star team. The others, including Vani Kapoor and Ashutosh Rana, provide a perfect foil.
With just the right mix of intrigue and drama filled with secret missions, wanted terrorists, rogue agents, civilian ‘assets’ and turncoat twists, the fast-moving plot takes us across some amazing inter-continental locations. The action scenes are some of the best-ever seen in Indian cinema and technically the movie is no less than any Hollywood big screen spectacle. Of course, be prepared to suspend disbelief and logic from time to time; and endure a super-stretched climax!
