RAW- Romeo Akbar Walter
Year: 2019
Director: Robby Grewal
Cast: John Abraham, Mouni Roy, Jackie Shroff, Sikander Kher, Raghubir Yadav
What’s the plot?
It is 1971. Indo-Pak tensions are escalating as the political situation in East Pakistan (later to be Bangladesh) is worsening. A war is on the cards. Indian spy agency chief (Jackie Shroff) recruits a young banker (John Abraham) for a secret mission. The mission is in Pakistan to work undercover to gather intelligence about the Pakistani army’s plans. Will he succeed in this job?
Verdict
Director Robby Grewal’s RAW – Romeo Akbar Walter is a tepid espionage thriller that begins well but fails to accelerate or provide any interesting twists or turns. Neither the rather dull performances of John Abraham and the supporting cast, nor the sluggish, uninteresting cinematic treatment are recipes for an electrifying, satisfying spy thriller.
Comparisons with the much-lauded 2017 film Raazi are inevitable since both films involve similar storylines and similar timeframes; and RAW simply pales in comparison to Raazi.
