In 2008, director-actor pair of Kunal Deshmukh-Emraan Hashmi had delivered an entertaining thriller Jannat, which was based on the theme of cricket match-fixing. Now the same team comes together in the second installment based on the theme of illegal arms- trafficking in India.
A small-time arms-dealer (Emraan Hashmi) is roped in to work as an informant by a renegade cop (Randeep Hoda), who wants to get to the main mastermind of the illegal arms trade. But complications arise when the crook falls in love with an attractive lady-doctor (Eesha Gupta). His promise to turn squeaky clean for his girl-friend is hard to achieve with him now neck-deep in the undercover arms-ring-bust operation. Will he manage to extricate himself from this tangled maze?
Hooda as the tough police officer and Hashmi as the rogue arms-dealer bring out the complex cop-informant relationship well. Eesha Gupta looks a mix of Angelina Jolie and Lara Dutta but her acting ability is limited.
Despite its overall predictability and lack of pace, Jannat 2 is a fairly good watch, thanks to some good action and romance sequences, and credible performances from the two main male protagonists.
