‘R & R’- Ribald and Ridiculous. Now that’s the type of humor, which has often succeeded in raking in the moolah at the Bollywood box-office. Directors like David Dhavan (with his countless Govinda and Salman- hits) and Rohit Shetty (with his Golmaal- franchise) have made glittering careers out of that. Now Sajid Khan, too can be counted in that bracket as he delivers a third successive successful film relying on ‘R & R’ formula, following Hey Baby and Housefull.
Like its predecessor, Housefull 2 uses the same set of elements. So once again, we have a non-existent farcical plot overfilled with crazy characters, exotic foreign locales and coarse comedy. The story throws together 4 ex-college-mates, their 4 current girl-friends and the girls’ 4 quirky fathers in one palatial mansion and then lets confusion reign supreme.
After an almost unbearable first half an hour, the film picks momentum through some wacky scenes and situations. More than anything else it is the great on-screen chemistry between all the male actors, (with special mention of Akshay Kumar, Ranjeet, Rishi Kapoor and Johnny Lever), which makes the film tick- of course, only if you are game for such type of comedies!
For the sane, serious and scholarly cine-goers it may be trashy cinema at its worst but for those who just want to have some mindless fun for 2 and a half hours, it has enough meat.
Say what you may about Sajid Khan and his film-making ability but with a trio of blockbusters under his belt, he is certainly showing that throwing logic into bin works big time for some people!
