An eccentric billionaire (Anupam Kher) sets up a meeting with 4 perfect strangers on the Greek island of Samos. Amongst his surprised invitees are an Istanbul -based suave drug-dealer (Abhishek Bachchan), a Bangkok-based top level politician (Boman Irani), a Mumbai-based film-star (Jimmy Shergill) and a London-based crime reporter (Shahana Goswami). The strange host further psyches the guests when he accuses all three males of having a hand in his long-lost daughter’s (Sara Jane Dias) checkered life and accidental death. He also announces to them that the young lady crime reporter he has called there is actually his other long-lost daughter! As the four guests try to come to terms with these revelations, the billionaire is found dead in his locked study-room with a bullet in his head! Enter Interpol to investigate and in comes a tough female cop (Kangna Ranawat).
Thus begins Game, a thriller directed by Abhinay Dev and produced by Farhan Akhtar. It begins well and creates sufficient intrigue. But if well- begun is half-done, then it remains half-done throughout. The progression of the story, the build-up of suspense, the twists and turns, and the final explanation of mystery ---everything leaves a lot to desire.
The top notch production values, exotic locales and few interesting action scenes do provide the style statement but ultimately the weak story fails to provide the substance to that style. In spite of such a packed cast including so many well-known actors and a debutante actress (Sarah Jane Thomas), there is not a single noteworthy performance. Abhishek and Kangna do try hard and look their parts but even they fail to leave any lasting impression.
Had the director and the producer given more thought to getting the core story right, rather than wasting so much money and effort on getting the look of the film right, then perhaps Game could have come out a winner!
